Friday night in Hamburg, Germany…and we are grocery shopping:)!

Hamburg, Germany, found us in a port city on a rather dreary, misty September day. We hit all the typical tourist spots but I really wanted to share the train station. As you may well know, train stations in Europe are huge, filled with people, and a major source of entertainment for people watching! The interesting thing about Hamburg’s train station was the packed grocery store with everyone waiting in line to load up on supplies for the weekend. Do take a look! Fresh fruits, meats and everything you could desire right here in the train station …

Here are a couple quick looks at the canal boat ride which we took through the city. Hopefully, you can see through the raindrops! Bud is pretty intense on trying to learn the German but thank goodness for the English GPS ear piece translators, which guided us with English descriptors through every canal turn!

Dear Dr. and Mrs. Oxley: hi from our classroom at Unity Elementary in Lima. Thank you for the pictures and the videos. It looks like fun. Where are you going next? Who steers the boat? Can you visit us when you come back to Ohio. What is the weather like on the ocean? Have there been any bad storms?
Have a great time and keep posting pictures for us to see. Faith, Naysa, Kaiden, Almarina, Kanye, Samuel, Damon, Mrs. Butler and Ms Downing
PS. We are doing fine this year and are mapping out the places you visit. We read “The Shoemaker and the Elves” yesterday. It is a story from Germany!
PPS: Ms Downing wants to know if you saw Wartburg Castle or the church where Martin Luther was the priest and nailed his Thesis.

    • Class,

WOW!! It is so GREAT to hear from you!!!
I think about all of you so often and pray that your year is going well!!
I continue to pray daily for you and the passage of the school levy in November!!

      Regarding our journey….
The Captain and his officers pilot the boat. There are some pictures of the ‘Bridge’ on the blog (hopefully)…oxleysadventures.com
I have actually had the thrill of spending time with them on the bridge…but please know only the officers do the navigating:)!

When we enter a port to dock another local pilot comes on board from a small tug and brings the ship to the final quay! It is so exciting to watch!!

The ocean seas ‘roll’….so you do have to hang on tight! However, the ocean seas are beautiful and we manage very well! The weather has been wonderful and we have gratefully missed all big storms:)!

We are now traveling by train and on our way to Paris, France!!
We will rejoin the freighter ship in Singapore. They have asked all passengers to disembark the ship, as they pass though the waters off the coast of Somalia. Just as in school, they put safety first and the ship goes into safety measures to protect from any threats of piracy.

Thank you for following along on this trip of a lifetime!!!

If you continue to study and work very hard….perhaps one day you will also be able to take a ‘dream trip’!!!

Have a super year….and don’t forget to listen carefully to Ms. Downing!!! She is the best and you are so blessed to have her as your teacher!!!

      Go Spartans….Miss you!!

      Mrs. Oxley
